Wolverine sequel officially titled Logan; new poster & script page revealed

10.05.2016

Well, it's official. While many were anticipating the next Wolverine sequel to be titled Old Man Logan (based possibly on the story by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven), it looks like it will be simply, LOGAN. Director James Mangold took to Twitter to make the announcement (with star Hugh Jackman also sharing the news) in both the form of a poster and a page from the script, both of which are quite revealing. First up is the poster, which features Wolverine's hand with claws popped and a child's hand holding onto it, presumably a female based on early set photos (see below) and rumored to be X-23, the female clone daughter of Wolverine from the comics (and current "Wolverine" in the Marvel books).

Next up is the script page, which reads much more like a hard R action movie than a watered down PG-13 superhero romp and is quite clear about what kind of tone they're going for:

"In this flick, people will get hurt or killed when shit falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won't bounce. They will die."

The page also starts off with a "fuck" from Logan and indicates that his character is "older now and it's clear his abilities aren't what they once were" using booze as the painkiller for his constant, chronic pain. That definitely reads like an endgame status for the character and Jackman has been pretty clear that this is his last outing as Wolverine, so let's just hope he goes out with a bloody bang. Will he pass the torch to a young X-23? Will we see a recast Wolverine in the future? Anything is possible and it's a long road ahead, but for now, I'm certainly intrigued by the direction they're headed with LOGAN.

LOGAN slices and dices into theaters on March 3, 2017.

After this I really hoped they'd have the balls to totally reboot the X-Men franchise - Not even get Singer's opinion, just start over to wipe out the messed up continuity that's more about keeping certain actors around than telling a good story. That's not to undersell Jackman and his performances - he's been good in all his turns as Wolverine, and he deserves one last shot at portraying the character, which seems to be something he genuinely cares about. After Logan would have been a great

After Logan would have been a great opportunity to hit the reset button. Apocalypse was too much of a wasted opportunity to warrant ploughing ahead with that continuity any further, as much as I like McAvoy and Fassbender's portrayals. Shame that seems unlikely.

Um, you realize that the Gambit movie probably isn't going to happen, right? I think that a movie with the current cast plus Channing Tatum as Gambit would be the way to go. Singer has expressed a desire to adapt the 90s cartoon with this cast and I think that could work.

Don't forget that Deadpool / New Mutants / X-Force is a separate franchise.

Meh

I'm kinda meh on this. We already got a "weakened" version of Wolverine in the second one. Was hoping we'd get a full blown wolverine at full strength in this one.

Technically, we did get that return of full blown wolverine at full strength in Days of Future Past after that. In a younger body no less. After six movies and almost twenty years, a character naturally should be in his older, weakened years in the last one.

Yeah, was thinking the same thing. Also how many time have we heard Logan say "You don't want to do this." It seems like a lot. I'm kinda tired of this watered down version of Wolverine.

Mangold fucked up the last movie

It was really cool to see Logan in Japan but they turned it into a CG shitfest.

Have to say, the Silver Samurai incarnation isn't what I wanted either. But Mangold delivered the best version of Wolverine to date in my mind.

Poster is good. Like it a lot. I'm sooo hoping this is good because the last two have been a let down. Everything seems good so far but you know never. Cant wait to see this.

Loving the poster and title. Obviously, the script page is more of a teaser. Feel its like that scene in The Wolverine where the gang is beating on Logan and he can't fight back because his healing factor isn't 100%. I'm loving the idea of adding X-23, Logan will feel he's responsible for her after his Weapon X transformation.

Big Thumbs Up Here

Really digging both the poster and title. Just from those two things alone, you can tell their main focus on this go-around is to humanize the character as much as possible.

Simple, yet effective title. A nice nod to 'Old Man Logan' even though they won't be able to adapt the storyline faithfully due to certain characters not being able to make an appearance.

And the little girl's hand holding his hand has to be X-23, right?

Fuck!

This is AWESOME. Love the title (simple, no-nonsense, straight-forward), love the poster, love the script page! Here's hoping for an R-rated Wolverine, at last.

Love it

I think both the title and poster are great. If this really is his "last" time playing Wolverine (we all know how "last"s go these days), the character deserves a bloody, gritty last outing. The title "Logan" is a nice nod to the Old Man Logan story line and delivers the message that this is about his character, both as the Wolverine and as a person. As to the R-rating speculation, it's got to be. 1) Fox made Deadpool, Deadpool was R, Deadpool made loads of cash, thus Fox should be less weary.

Can't wait.

Don't like the title, but I will see it in theaters...

So, basically Im already going so I guess my opinion is irrelevant for marketing purposes.
