Woody gets with the times in new Toy Story 3 clips

May. 24, 2010by: Dave Davis

It didn't seem like audiences stampeded to theaters for the return of SHREK (in 3D). Will they feel differently about Buzz Lightyear, Woody and the rest of Pixar's playthings in TOY STORY 3? (Hope so, since I put the movie at the top on the JoBlo summer box office contest!)

Our favorite sentient plastic beings will be in theaters again soon, but for now these new spots highlight the disparity between the "toys" of today and those introduced on-screen so long ago -- all the way back in the mid-90s. We didn't even have iPods then, golly!

Plus an homage to PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, which seems strange for a family movie to reference, but adults like toys, too...

Extra Tidbit: Oddly, I wouldn't mind seeing Pixar do a horror movie...

Re-occuring sequels kept Shrek from being Gold.

If I remembered correctly, Shrek 2 made 70 million dollars on its second weekend. The reason why the sequel was successful was because people "wanted" a sequel. Plus, good word of mouth helped make it one of the highest grossing films ever! Shrek 3 had an even higher opening weekend but it sank over 50 perdent after the second week, due to poor word of mouth. The problem with Shrek four was that people didn't want another Shrek sequel and the people who have seen it are not going to see it

They've beaten the dead ogre so much that you can't even recognize him. Toy Story, on the other hand, is timeless. They take their stuff seriously

I wholeheartedly disagree that Shrek is not on par with Toy Story. They are both right up there at the apex of computer animation, don't fool yourself. And another thing, Shrek never went away, Toy Story did. After 10 years, this is an event. Shrek was a continuing story, a fairytale.

Technology doesn't make a good movie (and yes, that includes Avatar). Give a good film maker some 16mm film, 1/4 audio tape, and some dusty old lights and they'll make magic. Or more appropriately here, give them a desk, some paper and a whole bunch of pencils and they'll make magic again.

That aside, I've always felt that the Toy Story movies have better delivered on story and overall "heart". I wanted to see Toy Story 2 and I want to see Toy story 3, but I've never wanted to watch any of the

Pixar can't lose right now

Everything I'm hearing says this movie is going to kick serious ass. Hopefully it gets the box office it deserves.

I think the marketing for this is perfect. The people that are going to make this successful are the people who loved the first two. A friend of mine recently took his kids to see the Toy Story 1&2 3D re-release in theaters, purely because he felt it was something they should experience.

Agreed. Amazing marketing campaign. The other day I realized I was 10 when the first one came out. I'm way more excited about this than any kid I know!

I don't think you can compare Shrek with Toy Story. If Toy Story were an opera then Shrek is a movie matinee. Don't get me wrong, I think Shrek is funny in it's own ways...but it's no Toy Story.

you're right, it's not toy story. it's bigger and better and funnier and has more heart than the brave little toaster-copying toy story 3. shrek is the ultimate computer animated saga.

Oh hell, I'll see this. Pixar always gets the benefit of the doubt with me.
