Wow! Is the Weinstein Co. really pushing Aja’s Piranha 3D to late August?

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

UPDATE: The new release date has been revealed! August 27th, 2010 will see the meat eating fish go buck nuts on the screens.

Here’s some officially depressing news if I’ve ever heard some.

In what’s become a sad recurring theme for the Weinstein Co., it looks like Alexandre Aja’s gory PIRANHA 3D rendering will be pushed back from its April 16th release date, to sometime in August at the very earliest. Balls!

According to The L.A. Times, the decision to bump the release of PIRANHA 3D has been made to clear way for the equally high profile Nic Cage flick KICK-ASS, which premieres the same weekend as the originally slated killer fish title. It also appeals to a similar demographic, and the top studio brass think it wisest to spread out their potential riches. Again, balls!

David Glaser, a senior Weinstein Co. executive, said there were no financial motivations behind the decision to move PIRANHA 3D. Come on, that’s precisely the motivation, isn’t it. It’s clear Bob and Harvey don’t want to place all their eggs in the Easter (April) basket, instead wanna allocate the wealth across the board and make sure they’ve got a viable summer picture. Right? Right!

The news comes on the heels of a rather disappointing year for the Weinstein Co., with their most notable prestige picture NINE getting thoroughly lambasted by pretty much all who’ve seen it.

Let the mourning begin.

Don’t worry Lisa, I’ll wait an extra few months for you!
