If you didn't already love Brett Ratner and his canon of vanguard cinema classics then get ready to now. As per usual, he was talking about projects he would like to do, this time with his focus on Batman-related spin-offs.

"As a kid, Batman was my thing... I’m a little jealous that I didn’t get to direct it, although Nolan did a great job. But there are so many characters in the Batman series, so many characters that I love, that the opportunities for spin-offs are endless.”

Ratner thinks that the first one should be a film just about the Joker, exploring his (possible) origin as the Red Hood. “That would be really cool... Heath was great... But the Joker is a great villain. That’s why Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger had so much to work with. And I think there will be another actor who can interpret that. It would be great to see [Robert] Downey [Jr.] as the Joker, for instance.”

Of course the up-side to what he's saying is that ponies will inherit the Earth before any of this shit ever happens.

Extra Tidbit: I just glanced at Ratner's birthday and for a split-second mistook it for the same day as mine. I know that means absolutely nothing, but even that tenuous connection scared the life out of me.

Is he serious? First off, I LOVE The Batman and particularly The Joker. I can't really express how much I love the character. A couple years back I ran around a foreign country dressed as Joker on Halloween... And this was an Eastern European country that doesn't do Halloween. My friends went with less crazy costumes. I hit up clubs in green hair and white skin...

That being said...

There could be something...
Not jumping on the Ratner Bashing Wagon. The idea of a joker movie could be good, if done right. If the movie was done based on the graphic novel of The Killing Joke. I'm not too knowing of the exact title(feel free to correct me if I am wrong)That would be a perfect orgin story for the Joker. Like I said above, as long as its in the right hands.

Ratner is annoying. And just because Downey Jr. is awesome, doesn't mean he's perfect for every role!
Now Crispin Glover I could get on board with. Or even Nicholas Brendon (Xander from Buffy). Everytime I see him smile on Buffy I think he'd possibly be perfect for the Joker.

We all know what happened when someone with little no knowledge or interest in the source material signed on to direct movies about Batman. "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin" happened.

Just as Joel Schumacher was the worst thing to ever happen to the franchise let's not taint it furthermore by allowing sub-par talent to make anything remotely related to it. "Begins" and "Dar...

ya sure Ratner seems to talk alot of shit about all these dream projects..people forget he was contractually obligated to deliver X3 out of nowhere..so ya like some other person said you blame the studio which to no surprise is Fox..the guy will only be known as making 3 Rush Hour films & im surprised he hasnt said he made Jackie Chan a star in the US..lol now dat would be a joke.

I am one of the few to disagree. I blame Tom Rothman for X3. Even Matthew Vaughn leaving (don't get me wrong i love the man). There was not enough time for X3 in my opinion; it was rushed. For the limited time he had he did the best he could. I blame the studios. Or the parents...you choose.

Ratner is a less than average director because he ruined one of my favorite franchises (i.e. X-Men) and the only reason I enjoyed Red Dragon was because of Edward Norton and the only reason I enjoyed Rush Hour 1/2/3 was because of the funny chemistry between Tucker and Chan.

Relax, guys. WB executives would offer their first-born to ensure that Christopher Nolan stays on Batman.

That said, if there's anyone who could do the Joker justice, it would be Mark Hamill. Sure, he's much older than Heath Ledger, but no one can argue that he doesn't have the character nailed.

Maybe Ratner can just put the joker in his next Miley Cyrus music video, or maybe he could just get Miley to dress up as the joker herself, or maybe Ratner should just build a time machine and get his past self to stop at Red Dragon so that his legacy would not have included the likes of X3 and Rush Hour 3.

I like the idea of a spin-off but i sometimes think he gets a lot of grief for X3 which went through 3 directors before it came to him (that is a sign of what was to come) so that meant already it wouldnt be great. also red Dragon was pretty good and Ruch Hours were fun. So I dont think he is terrible.

Although I sometimes enjoy the RUSH HOUR flicks, and am able to tolerate X-MEN 3 without wanting to do the disappearing pencil trick, what has he really done to warrant Batman?

RED DRAGON. His best film. It was moody, dark, and menacing - and you somehow felt for The Tooth Fairy in the end... which is a good template for what he's thinking for his JOKER dream.

However, I'm strongly leaning towards that thinking that RED DRAGON was a once in a lifetime fluke - more a sum of the talent he hired perhaps.

Oh... and WTF? Downey Jr.? What kind of paint thinner was he huffing?!?! Downey doesn't have the psychosis for the Joker.
