Keri Russell is in early talks to join the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX

The force is apparently quite strong with FREE STATE OF JONES and DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES actress Keri Russell. According to Variety, the RUNNING WIDE alum is in early talks to join the cast of J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: EPISODE IX.

The role that Russell is considering would require her to perform action-heavy fight scenes, which we all know that she's more than capable of playing after seeing her kick ass in projects like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III and THE AMERICANS. The search for an additional female cast member to be added to STAR WARS: EPISODE IX began roughly two months ago, with the studio setting their sights on Russell just before the Fourth of July holiday. Two more cast members are expected to join the on-going space opera before the project rolls into production at the end of this month. Of course, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver have already been confirmed to return for the third film in the latest Star Wars trilogy.

For the moment, we do not know if Russell's character would be on the good or bad side of The Force. Which would you prefer? Personally, I would like to see her as a member of The Dark Side. Also, how do you feel about Abrams returning to both write and direct the sequel? Let us know your thoughts about this casting in the comments section below.
