New Predator poster strikes at licensing expo

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Had THE PREDATOR retained its original spring release date we probably would have seen some posters or even a teaser for it by this point. But, to our dismay, it was pushed back to August some time ago, meaning we’ll have to wait for any of the good stuff showing off our alien hunter pal. For now, though, we can at least gaze upon a new promotional poster for that shows the dangerous creature lighting up the night sky. It would be beautiful if it didn't mean tons of people were about to be gutted.

The pic was posted on Instagram by someone passing by the 20th Century Fox stand at the Brand Licensing Expo in London, with other posters lining the wall as well.

Now for those of you who are a bit confused as to why this lightening is not striking over trees in the Amazon or some other remote jungle, it’s because the new movie from Shane Black will actually take place in a suburban location. This was revealed by Olivia Munn almost a year ago, with Fox CEO Stacey Snider further explaining the story back in September, saying the movie is “unexpected and utterly fresh”:

I just imagined that it would take 500 hours to read the script — that it would be interior jungle, exterior more jungle and then fighting happens, but Emma [Watts] went out and recruited Shane Black. From the first page, it didn’t read like a “Predator” film. It’s set in suburbia. There’s a little boy and his dad at the center of the action.

Now I don’t know if this is the actual teaser poster Fox planned on unveiling to the public, or if it was just a bit of promo art to market their stand at the expo, but it’s still kind of cool nonetheless. The setting is confirmed so people know not to expect another jungle adventure, possibly trying to copy the original, and that it's switching up locations to give the new entry a unique feel. However, this does make feel like they're going to have the Predator come down in the lightning like the aliens in WAR OF THE WORLDS.

THE PREDATOR arrives August 2018 starring Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Trevante Rhodes and more.
