Fun trailer for The Grand Seduction with Brendan Gleeson & Taylor Kitsch

While you’re being bombarded by the explosions, monsters, robots, and superheroes of the summer box office, there may come a point when you need a good palate cleanser. For me, the best films to fit that mold are light, airy, and fun indie dramas or comedies and it looks like THE GRAND SEDUCTION will fill that need graciously. Starring Brendan Gleeson, Taylor Kitsch, and Liane Balaban, the story is a familiar one, especially if you’ve ever seen DOC HOLLYWOOD or FUNNY FARM, in which a small town attempts to lure in a prestigious individual by catering to their taste and creating an visage of an idyllic place to live.

Take a look:

Here’s the synopsis:

The small harbor of Tickle Cove is in dire need of a doctor so that the town can land a contract to secure a factory which will save the town from financial ruin. Village resident Murray French (Gleeson) leads the search, and when he finds Dr. Paul Lewis (Kitsch) he employs – along with the whole town – tactics to seduce the doctor to stay permanently.

Sometimes this is just the kind of movie you need. It’s not gritty, edgy, overly dramatic, overly funny, or even exceptionally memorable, but it can be a nice, easygoing slice of entertainment that doesn’t require much of you, but doesn’t insult you either. Or, maybe I’m just a sucker for these. It’s possible. Gleeson is always great to have on board and while Kitsch had a rocky start, he seems to be gaining some steam with roles in flicks like this, LONE SURVIVOR, and the upcoming HBO drama THE NORMAL HEART.

THE GRAND SEDUCTION hits limited theaters on May 30, 2014.
