Considering the fact that 2010's ALICE IN WONDERLAND grossed over $1 billion worldwide, I'm surprised it has taken Disney this long to make a follow-up, but the sequel is set to hit theaters next year, and the first footage from it has landed online. It's a very short look at the upcoming film though, however the release of it probably means a full trailer is on its way.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS comes from THE MUPPETS director and Flight of the Conchords co-creator James Bobin (taking over for Tim Burton), and besides (just to name a few) Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway reprising their roles from the first movie, it also features the talents of Sacha Baron Cohen, Rhys Ifans, Toby Jones and Andrew Scott.

While story details haven't been revealed except that the film will follow Alice as she travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter after finding out he's turned even madder, obviously the film is based on the Lewis Carroll novel Through the Looking Glass, and like Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, it's going to be a bit different compared to the source material. The only reason I'm even slightly interested in seeing the follow-up is because it was directed by Bobin, however I'd be lying if I said that I have high expectations for the sequel.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS will be in theaters on May 27, 2016.
