Cool Videos: Watch William Shatner read Where the Wild Things Are to a bunch of lucky kids

Cool Videos

God bless The Shat. Colorado based Comic Book Classroom (a non-profit organization that donates comics to help promote literacy and art skills for underprivileged youths) was at the Denver Comic Con and so was William Shatner, who made a surprise appearance and also treated the children to a reading of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are. The end result is odd, awesome and heartwarming. Shatner really gets into the reading and I'm sure most of the adult audience members were actually more excited for this than the children.

Growing up I watched an insane amount of movies but first and foremost I was a bookworm. To me reading is almost a lost art and to see William Shatner encouraging kids to pick up a book makes me very happy. It's no secret that with all the technology available now it can be very hard to get a kid to read but to me the best way to get a child into reading is by giving him or her material that they will actually be interested in, including comic books. Sure kids should also read the classics but I guarantee you that it'll be easier to get them to read Moby Dick or A Tale of Two Cities once you open their minds to the power of books with something they would want to read first.
