20th Century Fox has debuted a new trailer for ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an upcoming cyberpunk action adventure film based on the manga series "Gunnm" by Yukito Kishiro. The new trailer arrived courtesy of a worldwide live Q&A with ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL's producer James Cameron, director Robert Rodriguez, producer Jon Landau, the star Rosa Salazar and fans across the movie's official social and YouTube channels.

During this live Q&A at Lightstorm Entertainment, the studio that brought you TITANIC and AVATAR, the film's new trailer and an additional image for ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL were released! The visually stunning sci-fi romance also stars Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson.

If you've missed the Q&A, you can click here to watch an archived version of the broadcast. For those of you from across the pond, the event is set to be translated into English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

In addition to the trailer release, Fox also shared a new and exciting image from the film:

Here's the official synopsis for the movie:

From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she's grown to love.

Directed by Rodriguez from a screenplay penned by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis, this new trailer has ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL looking positively awesome, with the film offering much more than sci-fi visual splendor by adding elements of romance alongside the rock-em-sock-em action. We all know that adaptations of beloved manga series don't always fare well in Hollywood, though Battle Angel looks to be making a concentrated effort to be the exception.

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL will arrive in theaters on December 20th.
