Apparently, Matthew Vaughan is in negotiations to direct the classic Marvel property, THOR. I don't know how true this is, so treat this as nothing more than interesting rumor at this point, but still, let's discuss the possibility, shall we? I like LAYER CAKE (Vaughan's directorial debut), but I like SNATCH and LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELLS better, and I remember after the release of REVOLVER, lots of people declaring that its failure was proof that Vaughan was the real creative force behind both of Guy Ritchie's super successes. I still don't want to believe that. I appreciate REVOLVER for what it tried to be, I just think it was too clever for its own good. If it was all Vaughan though, then more power to you, pal. As I'm sure you know, he was at one point attached to direct X-3, but dropped out fairly late on (so someone really thinks he would be good for comic-adaptations). It may also hurt to remember that he was the one responsible for the casting of Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut, which I can't see as anything but a complete failure. Vaughan's upcoming flick STARDUST looks pretty cool though, and is enough for me to think that he could do THOR some justice. But what do you guys think?
Extra Tidbit:
THOR is set for a 2009 release.

BAD IDEA
Thor as a movie will suck.
Not as much as the Fantastic Four films, but hey, they're making the money back... so why not make it? |

Iv wondered the same thing, is it written somewhere that EVERY comic book movie has to be made Live Action, i would like to see a Animated Comic book movie, that way we dont have to worry about what actor will play which character. |

Why don't they make a cartoon epic adventure that looks like that pic that is shown on this article? Instead of trying to convert comic book heroes to live action, they just need to take a graphic novel or comic book style drawing and expand it into a movie with the same look? I just don't understand it. |

IT COULD WORK!
Going by imurealdad1's comment about a Thor film perhaps not translating well to film, I think it could. As we've seen since LotR, fantasy films have been doing pretty well (except Eragon, brilliant book, pretty good casting, terrible script).
If Thor was done with a good percentage of it as a mythological fantasy movie, as apposed to a 'spandex' superhero film, it could be pretty good. I haven't read much in the way of Thor comics (more of a spandex hero reader myself), but I'll be looking forward to it getting the green light. |

Whycome everybody be down on Vinnie Jones? What could he do with a part like that? Run and knock things down better? He did that ok as far as me concerned. And as far as Thor, well they can do what they want. Remember Ghost Rider? The Punisher? Me neither, cause I didn't see em. Probably the same fate awaits the Mighty Bore and ITRON Man. |

SWEET TO THE NESS!
This could definitely be an awesome film if done right. But it definitely has to be handled with respect and NOT made campy at all if it's going to work. The audience needs to respect Thor. If that can be achieved Marvel has a winner baby! |

It's nice to see that marvel has taken credit for a scandinavian mythology that's really great.
For you who didn't notice I was sarcastic. |

YEAH, MAKE A THOR EPIC
I'm With Tyler Durden on this one. Let Blake finde Mjolnir and stop not aliens, but some fantasy baddies, and than he is tranported to Asgard to claim his place as Odin's son. He is then thrown into a conspiracy which of course is all Loki's doing. I'm for Tim Roth as Loki, Brendan Gleeson as Odin and maybe Karl Urban as Thor?
And for all the Thor-Haters: He is actually a pretty cool character when treated as an update on Norse mythology rather than your stereotypical superhero. |

ACTUALLY
Marvel has shown that the 'gods' in the marvel universe arent really GODs and that theres only the real GOD. you know, actual GOD creator of everything type deal. It was actually in one of the latest issues of the past year or 2. And i think Thor oculd be tight on screen if done right, and Vinnie Jones as horrendous as Juggernaught, i dont even wanna think about it. But who could play Thor? |
