Watchmen casting news May. 21, 2007
Source: AICN   by: Omar Aviles

The Watchmen Whenever we've used the word "watchmen" or "watchman" in an article title recently, we've usually been referring to the Keanu Reeves-starring thriller NIGHT WATCH. As a result, most of you are left frustrated that we weren't referring to the Zack Snyder-directed WATCHMEN, a live action adaptation of Alan Moore's groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name. Well today, dear schmoes, we actually are referring to WATCHMEN and we have some actual casting scoop courtesy of the folks over at AICN. And, ironically enough, one of the names being bandied about for a role in the film is Keanu Reeves. If that cinematic ring-a-round hasn't sufficiently blown your mind, let's discuss casting, shall we? According to the AICN-ers, Kate Winslet wash room banger Patrick Wilson is being sought to play The Night Owl, Michael Caine old role resurrecter Jude Law is being courted for Adrien Veidt aka Ozymandias and the aforementioned former Christ-like savior K. Ree is being asked to strip and slap on some blue paint for the role of the super powered Dr. Manhattan. Not that you need me to tell you but, schmoes, please, strike back at will.

Extra Tidbit: the twelve-issue "Watchmen" series was originally published by DC Comics as a monthly limited series from 1986 to 1987.

I heard someone suggest Denzel Washington as Dr Manhattan. I really dig that idea, but Keanu Reeves? Sounds pretty weak.

We all know buschemi was pretty much born to play Rorschach, but I also agree with the tim roth idea as well

IF IT IS TO BE...
...then this is pretty well exactly the cast I would want. I even think a blue Keeanu would work. I won't bother saying it shouldn't be made because...well, it's going to happen. It doesn't ruin the source material. It just honors it...it some strange way. Who knows, maybe it will work. Maybe if they have that cast. I know I would be more likely to spend my money that way.

The serial was great in comic book form, but if this movie is made, it will be an abysmally morose version of The Tick. As in unintentionally funny. I mean, you've got a fat guy in an owl costume. Close the book, its ok..watch it for two plus hours..I don't think so.

I JUST CAN'T HEAR IT...
...Keanu as Dr. Manhattan. For a long time I've had my own cast list in mind and it reads as follows: Alec Baldwin as Nite Owl/Dan Dreiberg (he's fat enough now), Ashley Judd as Silk Spectre/Laurie Jupeczyk, Tim Roth as Rorschach/Walter Kovacs, Harvey Keitel as The Comedian/Eddie Blake, Jude Law (coincidentally enough) as Ozymandias/Adrian Veidt, and David Duchovny as Dr. Manhattan/Jon Osterman. Go ahead and tell me these choices don't rock.

OK
Jude Law and Patrick Wilson sound seem like good casts, and although i have nothing against Keanu Reeves, I just really can't see him pulling off that role.. now that i think of it, i'm not sure who i can see successfully pulling off that role...

HAVE YOU GUYS..
..even read Watchmen? The charactor of Dr. Manhattan is losing his touch with humanity and walks around like a robot for most of the series. As far as I'm concerned it's the perfect roll for Keanu's wooden acting skills. And I'm not hating, I do like some of his stuff. Constantine was cool.
