Dave Bautista hopes Marvel makes a Drax solo film, even if he’s not in it

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Of all of the actors involved with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Dave Bautista has been the most vocal about his displeasure about Disney showing James Gunn the door, but that certainly hasn't affected his love of the character he plays in the franchise. While speaking with MTV International recently, the actor spoke of his desire for a standalone Drax film which would explore the alien's backstory.

I really wish they would tell more of the story of Drax's family. I think it's a beautiful story and I think it's been lost and overlooked a little bit. It's a beautiful and heartbreaking emotional thing to know where that love for his family and that heartbreak over his family being lost and murdered, where it comes from.

Dave Bautista says that although he really fought for a standalone film, at the end of the day, he doesn't believe that it will happen. However, the actor added that he'd still be interested in the story being told even if he isn't the one playing Drax. "I really wish they would because I think there's a story to be told there and I think the fans would really love to see that story, even if it's not me portraying Drax, I just think it is an interesting story to tell," Bautista said.

A future without Drax, or at least without Dave Bautista playing him, is certainly a possibility, as the actor recently cast doubt on whether he even wants to work for Disney while speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show.

There’s a bit of an issue. It’s a bittersweet conversation. No – it’s a bitter, bitter conversation, because I’m not really happy with what they’ve done with James Gunn. They’re putting the movie off. It’s on hold indefinitely. To be honest with you, I don’t know if I want to work for Disney… I’ve been very vocal about the way I feel. I’m not afraid to admit the way I feel.

Dave Bautista will next be seen as Drax in AVENGERS 4 on May 3, 2019. Beyond that? We'll have to see.
