Deadpool 2’s Zazie Beetz posts tribute for late stuntwoman, Joi ‘SJ’ Harris

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

DEADPOOL 2 actress Zazie Beetz took to her personal Instagram account on Thursday to post a touching personal message for her fallen friend and stuntwoman, Joi 'SJ' Harris.

As we'd reported on Monday, the late Joi 'SJ' Harris passed away after a stunt involving a motorcycle went terribly wrong on the set of David Leitch's DEADPOOL 2. According to eye witnesses, Harris lost control of her motorcycle and crashed through the glass of the Shaw Tower's ground floor studio. The stuntwoman's death This untimely passing marks the second time that a stunt performer has died on-set within the last month; after stuntman John Bernecker incurred massive head injuries while on the set of AMC's THE WALKING DEAD.

For clarification's sake, Zazie's message reads as follows, “On Monday we tragically lost one of our own — Joi ‘SJ’ Harris. My heart has been breaking the past two days and I have been searching what to say or do. I know that what I feel is nothing compared to what her loved ones, friends and family, are feeling. My heart and my love goes out to her and them all. The cast and crew send peace, healing, and their deepest condolences.”

Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, had also posted a statement on Twitter earlier this week, which expressed that he and the crew are "heartbroken, shocked, and devestated."

In the wake of these unfortunate events, DEADPOOL 2 had halted production for 48 hours as their way of mourning the loss of Harris' talents and presence on-set. We here at JoBlo continue to express our heartfelt condolences to Ms. Harris' family, friends, and crewmates. We'd also like to wish the production of DEADPOOL 2 a safe and exciting journey on the making of their film.

DEADPOOL 2 will arrive in theaters on June 1, 2018.
