These two teasers for A&E’s Bates Motel make it seem like another American Horror Story

BATES MOTEL, the PYSCHO prequel series airing on A&E next year, is going to focus on the formative years of Norman Bates and how he became the killer we saw in the classic Alfred Hitchcock film. But, what I anticipated as a psychological thriller looks to be more in line with the FX series AMERICAN HORROR STORY, based on these teasers.

Granted, as teasers these could just be shocking images meant to convey the evil nature of Norman and his mother, played by Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga, but I also get the sense that this may end up being a “murder of the week” show.

While I think showrunner Carlton Cuse (LOST) could have a interesting series on his hands, I worry they will try too hard. The series is being billed as a contemporary prequel, which means we could be getting a completely rebooted story simply based on the original characters.

Check out the teasers below.
