Here’s an update on a long in-development project: Way back in 2011, we reported that Wolfgang Petersen (TROY, POSEIDON) was working on an adaptation of John Scalzi’s sci-fi epic “Old Man’s War” for Paramount Pictures. Clearly, that never took flight, but this “War” is far from over.
It has been announced by The Hollywood Reporter that Syfy will bring “Old Man’s War” to the small screen. It has undergone a title change, however, and is now known as “Ghost Brigades” (which happens to be the title of the book sequel). Happily, Petersen is still on board as producer.
Here’s a brief look at what it’s all about:
Ghost Brigades follows John Perry, who at 75 enlists in the Colonial Defense Force to fight a centuries-long war for man’s expansion into the cosmos. Technology allows experiences and consciousness to be transplanted into younger bodies that are outfitted to endure the harsher rigors of war in space. However, soon after John arrives, he finds himself involved with a mysterious woman, and at the same time, at the center of an unraveling conspiracy involving an elite fighting force known as the Ghost Brigades.
Jake Thornton and Ben Lustig (Winter’s Knight) on board to pen the first script. David Self (THE HAUNTING) was the writer attached to the feature film version.
