We live in a world where TV shows go head to head with theatrical films in terms of budget, scope, talent, and quality, making TV better than ever to watch. By this point you’d think we’d have a decent horror show to tune into every week on regular cable, but alas shit like TRUE BLOOD and DEXTER is for HBO and Showtime eyes only.
But hopefully that’s all about to change with ABC picking up a new series entitled GHOSTWORLD, which sounds like a mix between GHOST (blech!), GHOST TOWN (yuck!), and THE FRIGHTENERS (awesome!). But don’t take my word for it, check out the show’s sysnopsis:
A ghost on the other side helps an ambitious young female homicide detective solve crimes in the hopes of uncovering clues to his own life and death, centering on the mysterious, intense and sometimes infuriating connection the two feel toward each other.
The potential is there for this to be awesome… or totally lame. Seriously, we could be looking at the next big thing, or we could be looking at another GHOST WHISPERER… and that would just be scary. And not scary in a good way.
The show is current in script mode, with only one hour-long episode in, written by Dana Stevens, with hopes for a Spring 2011 air date. I’ve always dug THE FRIGHTENERS, and the thought of solving your own murder is somewhat played out, but could totally work as a TV series. But if the two start to fall in love (ghosts and people can’t ever be together), then I’m out.
