Eric Heisserer is hot stuff these days in Hollywood, as he’s the man who’s behind the prequel to John Carpenter’s THE THING, and he just signed on to write FINAL DESTINATION 5 (read up on that HERE).
Heisserer recently had a chance to sit down and chat it up with io9 about what can be expected from THE THING prequel, especially how it will end. You know, will it have it’s own ending, will it lead off into Carpenter’s version, or will it basically play like a standalone movie. What’s the deal, man???? Oh wait. Let’s see what he has to say.
If we can pull this off, this movie will work perfectly [as] the first half of a double feature. So that the last shot of this film will be two Norwegians and a chopper chasing after a dog. And you can plug in Carpenter’s film and they will both feel and look as they have been made around the same time.
If this is true, he just made fans everywhere very happy. What worries me is the “if we can pull this off” line, like it may or may not happen this way, but if it does… awesome. What a great way to not only pay tribute to the original, but also not get stuck in figuring out how to end it or try and develop a lame ending that has continuity problems with the first one. Just end it exactly how the original starts off. Makes sense to me, yo!
