Dante Alighieri’s poem “The Divine Comedy” aka “Dante’s Inferno” became quite the popular property a few months back, first being picked up by EA for an epic video game treatment for XBOX and PS3, which was later picked up by Universal for a big budget live-action movie based on the game. Included in the EA deal was the rights to tie in an animated movie to the video game… and here we are. The trailer for Starz / Visceral Games’ animated DANTE’S INFERNO has now been unleashed, which you can check out below.
From the folks who put together the animated DEAD SPACE: DOWNFALL, DANTE’S INFERNO follows Dante as he travels through limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery in search of his true love, Beatrice. Which is, of course, the same basic story as the original poem, and what players will have to navigate through in the upcoming game.
The trailer below looks pretty awesome, and probably warrants a Netflix rental, or possibly even a blind-buy if you’re into that style of animation. It doesn’t appear like they’re holding back on the blood and violence (which is always a good thing), and let’s face it… it’s a pretty cool story overall. Plus, it appears to have six different masters of animation at work here. Hells yeah.
