Lionsgate goes backwoods

Variety checks in today with news that the Gary Oldman flick THE BACKWOODS has been picked up by genre film magnet Lionsgate. Directed by Spanish helmer Koldo Serra in his feature debut, this clears the way for your North American release (be it DVD or theatrical), but unfortunately, nothing’s been announced as of yet.

Co-starring Virginie Ledoyen, Paddy Considine, Aitana Sanchez-Gijon and Lluis Homar, the flick is set in the Basque Country in 1978. On vacation there, two young couples stumble on a deformed girl in a cabin and, in a tale of mounting violence, ire local villagers when they try to help her.
