James Dean eat your heart out,
because the real rebel without a cause is here and he goes by the name of
Charley Tibbs. If you don’t recognize the name, don’t fret because not many
people do. But if you do recognize it, it probably means you’ve seen the 1963
exploitation film THE SADIST.
THE SADIST is a drive in masterpiece, following a trio of school teachers on
their way to a Dodgers game, until their car breaks down. They head to a nearby
gas station when they run into psychotic outlaw Charley Tibbs and his equally
f**ked up girlfriend Judy. Charlie torments the three for Judy’s pleasure, even
killing one out of amusement. The remaining two must now play along with Tibbs’
deranged games until they can escape.
If you haven’t seen this movie, you should definitely look into buying it. It’s
filled with all sorts of subtle 1950’s subliminal “behave” messages as well as
some phenomenal acting on the part of Arch Hall Jr. who plays Charlie Tibbs.
