Alice Braga (Queen of the South) and Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) have signed on to join Joel Edgerton (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Jennifer Connelly (Top Gun: Maverick) in the cast of Apple’s nine-episode adaptation of the Blake Crouch sci-fi novel Dark Matter. The show will center on

Jason Dessen (Edgerton) a physicist, professor, and family man who – one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago – is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the multiverse of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.

Variety reports that Braga will be playing the character of Amanda, a psychiatrist. Simpson is taking on the role of Ryan, a brilliant neuroscientist and friend of Jason’s. Connelly is playing Daniela, Dessen’s wife.

Crouch has written the mini-series adaptation of Dark Matter himself is also serves as showrunner on the project. He is executive producer the series with Edgerton, as well as Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl of Matt Tolmach Productions. Sony Pictures Television is producing, and Jakob Verbruggen is directing the first three episodes. Verbruggen’s previous credits include episodes of The Fall, House of Cards, Black Mirror, The Alienist, and The Twilight Zone.

I’m not familiar with Crouch’s novel, but the cast that has been assembled for the adaptation is making Dark Matter look very promising to me. How does this show sound to you, and have you read the book? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

In addition to Queen of the South, Alice Braga has also been in I Am Legend, Predators, The Suicide Squad, The New Mutants, Elysium, and City of God, among other things. Jimmi Simpson’s other credits include The Man Who Fell to Earth, Into the Dark: Treehouse, Hap and Leonard, House of Cards, Psycho, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
