Ever since the DC universe was placed under new management with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm, fans of the brand have voiced their concerns and criticism of the decisions they’ve made. Most notably, fans were disappointed to hear that the big players of the Snyderverse were officially put on ice. One person defending the new bosses was Zachary Levi. The premiere for Shazam: Fury of the Gods zapped into Hollywood last night, and Levi would continue to be cautiously optimistic with Gunn and Safran as he spoke with Deadline on the red carpet.

Levi had defended Gunn and Safran on Twitter in the past by asking for patience from the fans as the new DC heads get the ball rolling. He says this as the uncertainty of Shazam‘s future looms overhead. On the red carpet, Levi stated, “It all comes down to what the people want. We made a great movie. I’m really proud of this movie. I hope everyone goes sees it. I hope they tell all their friends and family. That’s all I can do: I can show up and be the best Shazam that I can be.”

When he was inquired about working as Shazam under the new DC in the future, the actor said, “Trust me, wherever they say, we want you to be Shazam in this thing, I’d be like, ‘Great, let’s go. I’ll do that.'” Levi, then, would continue to instill trust in Gunn and Safran to make a great universe, “I do know that Peter (Safran), who I’ve known for years, and James (Gunn), who I’ve even known longer, are really excellent leaders. And I trust where they’re going to take all this stuff.”

Newcomer Rachel Zegler, who was cast as the third daughter of Atlas, Anthea, the younger sister of Hespera and Kalypso, even commented that she remains hopeful, “We’re confident about the future of the franchise.” The co-writer of the film, Henry Gayden, had also informed Deadline that the future of the Shazam character had been discussed between the new DC bosses briefly, but had, “only the most preliminary of conversations, we’re all waiting to see how this movie does and then see if we can tell that story.”

Shazam: Fury of the Gods opens this Friday.
