The Batman Part II

After a long road to a follow-up, The Batman sequel is finally in production and the momentum is rolling as both Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson have reportedly joined Matt Reeves’ side-universe reboot of the Caped Crusader’s franchise. Details on the sequel are sparse, but Reeves has previously teased that the villain has “never really been done in a movie before.” Robert Pattinson will once again suit up as Batman, and it’s expected that Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell will also return as Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and the Penguin, respectively. There have also been rumblings that Tobias Menzies is circling a role in the film.

Snow tires

Yesterday, Matt Reeves decided to whet fans’ appetite with a little tease on his social media, according to Variety. One of the stand-out scenes in The Batman was the debut and chase sequence of Robert Pattinson’s Batmobile. Many fans at the IMAX screening in particular had raved about the roar of the Batmobile’s engines over the sound system. Now, Reeves teases a new look at the Batmobile as it drives through a snowy Gotham, perhaps running from Gotham police. In his post, he shared two pictures of a camera test and simply captioned the post, “#SnowTires” with a bat emoji.

Parellel universes

While this side-continuity doesn’t have to worry about connecting to anything in the DCU, there has been a rumor that James Gunn “is pushing to get The Batman Part III out faster… he wants that trilogy over… he wants to move on. [He] doesn’t want two Batmans.” While this statement is only a rumor, it makes sense that Gunn wouldn’t want two Batmans running around the DCU, even with the DC Elseworlds deliniation. However, the third film wouldn’t be as rushed as this may imply, as industry insider Daniel Richtman says DC’s The Brave and the Bold is “not coming for years.”

In addition to saying that filming for The Batman Part II could begin in late May, WB also suggests that cameras could roll on James Gunn’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow“in a few weeks.” Given the sequel’s July 9, 2027, release date, this news could hold weight.
