Netflix still hasn't set a release date for director Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, which marks Snyder's return to the zombie sub-genre more than fifteen years after making his feature debut with the Dawn of the Dead remake (watch it HERE), but it was announced a few months ago that Army of the Dead was going to be part of a franchise. And now one of the other installments has already wrapped production.
The world of Army of the Dead will be explored further in a prequel feature and an anime series, and Snyder took to his Twitter account to let his followers know that filming has been completed on the prequel – which he referred to as Army of the Dead: The Prequel.
Written by Snyder, Shay Hatten, and Joby Harold, Army of the Dead is an adventure film that takes place after
a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, where a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
The cast includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Huma Qureshi, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Nora Arnezeder, Rich Cetrone, Garret Dillahunt, Samantha Win, and Matthias Schweighöfer.
Army of the Dead: The Prequel centers on Schweighöfer's character Ludwig Dieter, and not only did Schweighöfer reprise the role for the prequel, he also directed the movie. He is joined in the cast by Nathalie Emmanuel, Guz Khan, Stuart Martin, and Ruby O. Fee. Snyder shared a picture of the actors as their characters:

Schweighöfer also produced the prequel with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Dan Maag of Pantaleon Films.
We'll see Army of the Dead: The Prequel at some point, but first we need Army of the Dead to be released. Then we'll have the anime series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas to look forward to as well. That show will serve as an origin story for
Scott (Bautista) and highlight his rescue crew’s efforts to protect all they love during the first phases of the mysterious zombie outbreak in Vegas.
The anime's voice cast includes Dave Bautista, Ana De La Reguera, Tig Notaro, Omari Hardwick, Ella Purnell, Joe Manganiello, Christian Slater, Harry Lennix, Ross Butler, Anya Chalotra, Vanessa Hudgens, Yetide Badaki, Christina Wren, Monica Barbaro, Jena Malone, and Nolan North.
