Netflix has released the official trailer for Unabomber, giving us our first extended look at Jacob Tremblay as Ted Kaczynski, the mathematical prodigy who would eventually become one of the most infamous domestic terrorists in American history. The movie also stars Russell Crowe as Harvard professor Henry Murray and Shailene Woodley as FBI agent Joanne Miller. Inspired by true events, Unabomber follows Kaczynski from his teenage years at Harvard to the FBI manhunt that ultimately led to his capture. The movie will be available to stream globally on Netflix September 25, 2026.
Netflix’s official synopsis reads:
Inspired by true events, Unabomber follows Ted Kaczynski’s (Jacob Tremblay) transformation from Harvard prodigy into the infamous Unabomber. Subjected to controversial psychological experiments by Professor Henry Murray (Russell Crowe), Kaczynski’s troubled past resurfaces decades later when his manhunt, led by FBI agent Joanne Miller (Shailene Woodley), brings to light the chilling consequences of ambition and isolation.

The cast also includes Annabelle Wallis as Christiana Morgan, along with Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg, and Marc Menchaca.
The film is directed by Janus Metz, who previously directed Borg vs. McEnroe and All the Old Knives, from a screenplay by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves. Sophie Cassidy produces for 2.0 Entertainment in association with MRC.
Metz previously explained that he was particularly interested in the lesser-known period of Kaczynski’s life at Harvard. That part of the story allows the film to explore the person Kaczynski was before he became the Unabomber and how his experiences influenced the man he eventually became.
“I was fascinated by the fact that the hunt for the Unabomber was the FBI’s longest and most expensive operation to date. But what really drew me in was the story about Ted Kaczynski’s years at Harvard when he was a young math student. This was a side to the story I didn’t know about.”
The film is rated R and has a reported runtime of 1 hour and 38 minutes. Netflix categorizes it as a drama and thriller based on real life.
