Brian O’Conner in Furious 7
When Paul Walker of The Fast and the Furious franchise passed away while the seventh entry was in the middle of production, director James Wan had to institute some current filmmaking methods to include his character in the remaining scenes. Walker’s brothers, Cody and Caleb, helped to do some performance captures by standing in for Paul, and it was decided that CGI and former footage would be used to overlay his face to complete Brian O’Conner’s appearance in the film.
No Cody in Fast Forever
With the eleventh and final entry, Fast Forever, preparing to go into production, Cody Walker tells Entertainment Weekly that if they do bring Brian O’Conner back, they’ll be doing it without him. Cody explained that Paul’s daughter, Meadow, will have the final say on what to do, but he will not participate this time around. He told EW,
My stance is, it’s what Meadow wants to see done; it’s her father. I would not be interested in doing that again. I love the way his character exited the franchise. They didn’t kill him off, they didn’t do something cheesy like that. It’s beautiful, [Brian] is off raising his kids. But if they want to do that, if Meadow would like to see that, they don’t need me or Caleb. AI was not a thing back in 2014, so they could do that. There’s years of footage that was never used from these other Fast films. They’re the best in the business, they can figure that out.”sponsored content
Diesel directing Fast Forever?
While there has been a number of stalls on Fast Forever, one thing that was previously thought to be a non-issue was the return of director Louis Leterrier to helm the next film after stepping in to direct Fast X when Justin Lin departed the project. Diesel would recently post a cryptic message on his Instagram that simply said, “Director…Hmmm…”
However, Diesel takes his title as a producer to listen to the fans and guide where the final film might be heading. The star is active on social media and has credited the fans with bringing Dwayne Johnson into the series, as well as the return of Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster when their characters were no longer involved with the franchise. Diesel recently hyped the fans up at last year’s Fuel Fest by saying the fans want to bring the franchise back to its roots, including keeping it in L.A., taking it back to car racing culture and reuniting Brian O’Conner with Dominic Torretto.
