Back in 1982, Barbara Hershey starred in a horror film called The Entity, which was based on the story of Doris Bither, “a hard-working single mother whose life becomes a nightmare when she is attacked in her bedroom by someone – or something – that she cannot see.” Now, that same real-life story is coming back to the screen in a new horror movie starring Heather Graham, and the project has a new title. Previously announced as Entity Within, the film is now called What Happened to Doris?, and we have the first look at the movie ahead of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 20. Heather Graham (Boogie Nights) stars in the film alongside Mimi Rogers (Hider in the House), Marcus Coloma, Kevin Keppy, Daniel Reed Ferrell, and Margo Parker.
Steven Schneider produces alongside German Michael Torres. Nick Simon (The Girl in the Photographs) directs the movie from a screenplay by Thomas Fenton, who worked on the script for Saw IV.
How What Happened to Doris? connects to The Entity
The new movie isn’t the first attempt to bring Doris Bither’s story back to the screen. In 1982, The Entity starred Barbara Hershey as a fictionalized version of Doris Bither. The movie became a memorable supernatural horror film based on the alleged haunting that Bither experienced. A decade ago, it was also announced that James Wan and Roy Lee would produce a remake of The Entity, but we never heard anything more about that project.
Now, rather than a being remake of the 1982 movie, What Happened to Doris? is taking another approach to the same real-life story.
