The Game Changer
When the Yeon Sang-ho movie, Train to Busan, premiered in theaters in the summer of 2016, it didn’t just revolutionize the zombie genre—it changed the plane of high-octane horror. Director Yeon took a familiar premise and injected it with a ferocious energy that took the world by storm. It wasn’t even just the terrifying threat of the infected that turned the film into a global phenomenon as we know it, but it was the story’s devastating emotional core and its biting message of corporate nature and class divide. The South Korean thriller became an international box-office hit. The film shattered cultural barriers, and a new golden age for Korean cinema was born.
