A teen’s phone urges her to kill in the trailer for A.M.I.

A.M.I. Rusty Nixon Debs Howard

I know plenty of people who are overly dependent on their phones, but the main character in director Rusty Nixon's upcoming film A.M.I. takes her phone obsession to a whole new level.

Debs Howard stars in A.M.I. as a high school student named Cassie, who

comes across a discarded cell phone with the latest AI on it. Cassie customizes the Artificial Machine Intelligence to sound like her deceased mother, which soon fills the void in Cassie’s life.  As their relationship deepens, the nurturing and seemingly caring AI drives Cassie to perform heinous acts of murder convincing Cassie that they are totally justifiable.

Howard is joined in the cast by Sam Robert Muik, Phil Granger, Havana Guppy, and Bonnie Hay.

Although listening to the phone causes Cassie to start acting like a slasher, the trailer embedded below includes a quote from George Mihalka, director of what I would consider to be one of the best slashers ever made (the original MY BLOODY VALENTINE) where he says A.M.I. is "more than just a slasher".

Slasher, "psycho-tech thriller", whatever you want to call it, A.M.I. looks good to me.

Viva Pictures will be giving the film a Digital, On Demand, and Redbox release on July 2nd.
