Amazon has already canceled The Dark Tower TV series

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

As many of you know, Amazon shot a pilot for a planned TV series based on Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER book series last year. And tonight we learned that Amazon has passed on producing the rest of the series from executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara. Weak.

Evidently, Amazon felt like the pilot was not on the level of their other fantasy series such as WHEEL OF TIME and THE LORD OF THE RINGS.

Yeah, sure thing, Amazon.

Developed by Glen Mazzara, Akiva Goldsman, and King, the series was meant to be a more faithful retelling of the novels, at first telling

Roland Deschain's origin story – how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black, his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger.

The first episode was directed by Stephen Hopkins who is best known around these parts for helming A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5: THE DREAM CHILD, PREDATOR 2, JUDGMENT NIGHT; BLOWN AWAY, THE GHOST AND THE DARKNESS, and THE REAPING. Sam Strike (LEATHERFACE) was playing Roland with Jasper Pääkkönen as The Man in Black. Oh, and Michael Rooker was in there in an unspecified role.
