An early draft of Deadpool 2 featured a Night Court reunion

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

With DEADPOOL 2 having been officially out in the world for a week, fans have had a chance to digest all the rapid fire jokes and references which the David Leitch film contains, but you can't always fit everything in. We already know that an extended cut of DEADPOOL 2 is on the way, but in addition to the footage which wound up on the cutting room floor, there are also plenty of scripted bits which were never filmed.

While speaking with Yahoo Movies, DEADPOOL 2 screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that one of those scripted gag which was never filmed would have seen Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) wind up in a courtroom, but not just any courtroom, but the one presided over by Judge Harold T. Stone (Harry Anderson) from 80s' sitcom Night Court.

He got busted for committing crimes, went to trial, and Harry Anderson was going to be the judge, and John Larroquette was going to be the prosecutor, and we were going to do a whole Night Court thing. That fell out.

Given the recent passing of Harry Anderson, the mini Night Court reunion would probably have been a little bittersweet, but I would have loved to have seen it. Rhett Reese added that this bit was just one of many which wound up on the "metaphorical cutting room floor."

The "official" synopsis for DEADPOOL 2:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Miami's hottest bartender, while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World's Best Lover.

DEADPOOL 2 is now playing in theaters.
