Bill & Ted Are Doomed comic book is the official prequel to Face the Music

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The characters of Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan have been at the center of several comic book titles over the years. From Marvel we got Bill & Ted's Excellent Comic Book, and from Boom! Studios there was Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return, Bill & Ted Go to Hell, and Bill & Ted Save the Universe. There were also comic book adaptations of the films BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE (from DC) and BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY (Marvel).

With the new film BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC scheduled to reach theatres on August 21, Dark Horse Comics has announced that they will be publishing a four-issue series called Bill & Ted Are Doomed, which serves as the official prequel to FACE THE MUSIC.

Scripted by the film franchise's co-creator/co-writer Ed Solomon and Evan Dorkin, who wrote Bill & Ted's Excellent Comic Book back in the early '90s, Bill & Ted Are Doomed has the following synopsis:

There's tension in the band and worry at home. Bill and Ted's obsession with writing the one song to bring peace to the world is affecting both their playing and their relationships with their families. The band is losing fans and the future isn't shaping up as they were led to believe it would. Desperate for a solution, Bill and Ted burst in to announce their great idea to revive the band's fortunes: A world tour to spread the love – and the rock, and the love of the rock – to the world.

The series will feature art by Roger Langridge, who had this to say about the project:

I think Bill and Ted strike exactly the right tone for these times. Their good spirits and most excellent hearts are the tonic we all need. And it’s an absolute, tick-one-off-the-bucket-list delight to be working with the incredible Evan Dorkin. I’m really proud of this comic."

Dorkin added,

My first full-time job in comics was adapting Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey in 1991. Now, in 2020, I'm writing a sequel — that's also a prequel — with the input and blessing of Ed Solomon, and the artwork of Roger Langridge, one of my all-time favorite cartoonists. It's been a total blast to work on, and I truly hope the fans have a most excellent time reading it."

The first issue of Bill & Ted Are Doomed is set to reach store shelves on September 9th, so fans will have the chance to watch BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC before they learn the prequel story.

The adaptation of BOGUS JOURNEY was one of my most-read comics growing up, so I'm definitely interested in seeing what Solomon and Dorkin have done with this series.
