Bruce Campbell says new Evil Dead is a remake, not a sequel

The internet was set ablaze yesterday when the rumor popped up that EVIL DEAD 4 was gearing up for production in Detroit. We were all skeptical, and the excitement has already been quelled with more confusion. The almighty Bruce “Don’t Call Me Ash” Campbell recently joined Twitter, and when a fan asked about the new film, he responded:

“Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.”

So, according to Campbell, the remake is still on. Does that mean the film moving forward is the remake, or is Bruce just campaigning behind the long-gestured film with no developments? Perhaps Campbell doesn’t even know about the new sequel, seeing as nothing is official yet. It’s also very possible that yesterday’s rumor is totally bogus.

Whatever the case, we’ll keep you updated as the story develops. Cult fans of the series would prefer a sequel over a remake, naturally, but the box office dictates that remakes are “in.” Only time will tell.
