It has become a recurring joke in the talk backs on this site whenever casting rumors abound that any role should be played by Idris Elba. The magnetic British actor has yet to reach the fame many expected for him in Hollywood despite great turns in TV series such as THE WIRE and LUTHER and feature films like PACIFIC RIM, THOR, and PROMETHEUS. There were many lobbying for him to be the next James Bond or Doctor Who.

While fans may be awaiting a big break for Elba, the actor is content to continue starring in films and TV series while also producing, writing, making music, and now directing. As part of Pepsi’s advertising surrounding this year’s World Cup in Brazil, Elba has directed a short film titled “Unstoppable” for the Pepsi Beats campaign. Featuring music by R3hab, the short film is a stylized throwback to the 1970s with a story populated by stock characters. While the film may not be the most original concept put to film, Elba has a nice sense for directing. Could this be a hint to big screen aspirations?

In the meantime, enjoy Idris Elba‘s directorial debut “Unstopabble”.
