Star Wars and controversy seem synonymous with each other ever since George Lucas decided to tinker with his original trilogy back in 1997. The controversies just grew from there, and when the teaser for J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS hit the internet last week, the latest came in the form of a lightsaber with a crossguard (check it out here in case you need a reminder). Fans and non-fans alike cried, "Foul!" and ran for the hills. Admittedly, I was taken aback the first time I saw that bad boy light up, but after a . . . ahem, few dozen viewings of the trailer . . . I've come to terms with it, and so has Stephen Colbert. The self-proclaimed Star Wars fanatic took to his show, The Colbert Report, to explain the functionality of this new breed of lightsaber and why no one should have any qualms with it. If you, yourself, have an issue or know a friend that does, I'd say this video is a must watch!

Tell 'em, Colbert!

The sniffles and tears of Star Wars fans who dislike change will be heard when STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
