Danny McBride says that Halloween will be a sequel, not a remake

Danny McBride Halloween David Gordon Green

Just yesterday John Carpenter made the rather surprising announcement that David Gordon Green and Danny McBride had signed on to write and direct the upcoming remake of HALLOWEEN. I can't have imagined that Green and McBride would be the one's tasked with remaking HALLOWEEN, but most of you, including myself, seemed intrigued by the possibilities.

While speaking with CinemaBlend, Danny McBride revealed that the film will not be a remake, but rather carry on with the story of Michael Myers which Carpenter set up so perfectly all those years ago. "It's gonna continue the story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way," said McBride. "And for our mythology, we're focusing mainly in the first two movies and what that sets up and then where the story can go from there." The continuity of the HALLOWEEN franchise has never been all that coherent, so it's probably for the best that the bulk of it will be ignored. Much of the first two HALLOWEEN movies take place on October 31st, 1978, so if Green and McBride's sequel really will be a continuation of that story, is it possible that the film will be a period piece?

Don't let Danny McBride and David Gordon Green's comedy backgrounds fool you however, McBride states that they're treating the project as "straight-up horror" and that they're going to make it "scary as hell." HALLOWEEN is set to hit theaters on October 18, 2018.
