Genre icon Dario Argento is the focus on the documentary Dario Argento Panico, which is having its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival – and with that premiere to take place this Saturday, September 2nd, a trailer for the documentary has arrived online! Directed by Simone Scafidi and produced by Paguro Film, Dario Argento Panico is said to be an immersive deep dive into the creative process and life of Argento. It features exclusive interviews with the legendary filmmaker and insight from other acclaimed directors like Gaspar Noé, Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn about his impact on the horror genre and generations of other directors.

Fiore Argento, Asia Argento, Vittorio Cecchi Gori, Lamberto Bava, Luigi Cozzi, Michele Soavi, Claudio Simonetti, Marisa Casale, Cristina Marsillach, Floriana Argento, Franco Ferrini, and of course Dario Argento himself also appear in the documentary.

Mediawan Rights is handling the distribution sales, and multiple distribution deals have already been secured. Plaion will be releasing the film in Italy, while Non-Stop releases it in Scandinavia and the Shudder streaming service brings it to the US, the UK, Canada, Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and Australia. Specific release dates have not yet been revealed.

Screen Daily got the first look at the trailer, and Mediawan’s Arianna Castoldi also provided them with the following statement about Dario Argento Panico: “It’s rather excusive in that we often talk about someone in the past and these filmmakers are talking about how he influenced them for their works that are quite recent.

Argento has written, directed, and/or produced many films over the course of his nearly sixty years in the industry, including Once Upon a Time in the West, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The Cat o’ Nine Tails, Four Flies on Grey Velvet, Deep Red, Suspiria, Inferno, Tenebrae, Phenomena, Demons, Demons 2, Opera, The Church, Two Evil Eyes, Trauma, The Stendhal Syndrome, The Phantom of the Opera, Sleepless, Do You Like Hitchcock?, Mother of Tears, Giallo, Dracula 3D, Dark Glasses, She Will, and George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead.
