Originally put together as a horror remake production company run by mega-producer Joel Silver, Dark Castle Productions has just raised $240M to make 15 films over the next 6 years. And while there are just a few on the slate thus far, only one of them would be considered horror… and it’s not a remake, either!
There’s an action thriller called WHITEOUT, and an urban action movie called GANGLAND up to be made, both of which are totally different from Dark Castle’s regular M.O., though right up Silver’s alley. More importantly is their psychological horror flick entitled THE SUMMONER, from writer Matthew Sand. Plot or storyline is unknown at this time, but what is known is that Victor Salva, he of JEEPERS CREEPERS fame, has been tapped to direct.
I know plenty of folk out there who don’t like Salva for a variety of reasons, but I personally thought CREEPERS was a fun ride, and have a slim slice of faith that he’ll rock this project, whatever it might be. Of course, he was also behind the stinkfest JEEPERS CREEPERS 2, so go figure… But with Silver producing, and Dark Castle’s track record of having it’s other romps in horror being fun (HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, HOUSE OF WAX), I’d say we’ll be in store for a real treat with this one.
Look for THE REAPING, Dark Castle’s next flick to be released upon the world, as it hits theaters March 30, 2007.
