Get in the spirit with this teaser trailer for Disney Pixar’s Soul!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Disney's Pixar Studios is an unrelenting torrent of massive and heartfelt entertainment that began with 1995's TOY STORY and continues to this day. Next year looks to be no different for the animation behemoth and this morning Pixar dropped a new teaser trailer for 2020's SOUL starring Jamie Foxx.

The premise sounds decidedly awesome:

Joe Gardner, a middle school music teacher, has long dreamed of performing jazz music onstage, and finally gets a chance after impressing other jazz musicians during an opening act at the Half Note Club. However, an accident causes Gardner's soul to be separated from his body and transported to the "You Seminar", a center in which souls develop and gain passions before being transported to a newborn child, and Gardner must work with souls in training, such as 22, a soul with a dim view on life after being trapped for years at the You Seminar, in order to return to Earth before its too late.

Although this trailer is a scant ninety seconds long I couldn't help but be moved. This looks like a real inspirational film through the vehicle of Jazz music, but it's clear from the trailer that it doesn't matter what drives you as long as you're passionate about it.

And if I could get personal for a moment, the old adage of "life is too short" can come off as cliche and hackneyed but it doesn't make it any less true. Take it from someone who had serious mental health issues last year and almost died twice, spending your precious hours doing something you're passionate about isn't cliche, it's necessary. Don't ever make the mistake of thinking you have more time because you might not.

SOUL starring Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, and Daveed Diggs spirits it's way into theaters June 19, 2020 and you can also check out a new poster for the film below.
