Bel Powley, Liv Tyler, Brad Dourif to star in Wilding

Rising star Bel Powley (who made a major impression in THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL) has joined the cast of WILDING, an arthouse horror flick said to be in the vein of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. Powley will be featured alongside Liv Tyler, Brad Dourif and James LeGros in the film, which is being directed by first-timer Fritz Bohm.

WILDING focuses on…

young Anna (Powley), who spends her entire childhood in a single room under the care of a mysterious man (Dourif) she only knows as “Daddy.” He makes her fear the “Outside” by telling her of the “Wildling,” a creature with sharp teeth and claws who roams about eating little children.

At age 16, Anna is freed by small-town sheriff Ellen Champney (Tyler) with whom she finds a temporary home. For the first time in her life, Anna experiences the Outside, soon learning there’s no such thing as the Wildling. But as she begins to flourish as a young woman, a series of unsettling events unfolds. James LeGros will portray the Wolf Man, an eccentric shaman who lives in the forest.

Sounds like intriguing stuff, a combination of THE VILLAGE and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. (Okay, maybe not, but I enjoy describing it that way.) It’s cool to see Dourif – who I’ve always loved – get a role in a movie people are sure to notice; the actor is so good, and he’s been stranded in a direct-to-DVD rut for far too long.

Tyler will co-produce with Trudie Styler’s Maven Pictures. (Yes, Trudie Styler as in Sting’s wife.) Production begins at the end of the month. Happy Halloween, guys!
