Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett is in negotiations to join Jack Black in THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS, an adaptation of John Bellairs' 1973 horror novel, which featured illustrations by Edward Gorey.

Set to be directed by Eli Roth from a screenplay by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS will follow

a recently orphaned boy who moves in with his uncle. The uncle turns out to be a mediocre witch and the boy soon finds himself in a world of magic and danger, especially when he discovers a clock inside the walls of his house that is designed to bring about doomsday.

Black will be playing the uncle / mediocre witch. Blanchett is in talks to play the uncle's neighbor and best friend Mrs. Zimmerman, who also happens to be a witch herself.

Kripke is producing the film with Brad Fischer and James Vanderbilt for Amblin Entertainment.

I haven't read the book, but this adaptation is coming along just as I'm getting into watching Supernatural (I'm currently nine episodes into season two), so I'm feeling positive about Kripke's contributions to the genre right now. A movie that results from a team-up between Kripke, Roth, Black, and (potentially) Blanchett is definitely something I will be interested in watching.
