Confirmed: Michael Fassbender will star in Ridley Scott’s next film The Counselor

Not that I expect it to top NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, but damn this one is exciting…

A couple weeks ago we let you know that Ridley Scott had officially decided to make THE COUNSELOR as his next film. You know, the flick scripted by Pulitzer Prize winning author Cormac McCarthy…described as “NO COUNTRY on steroids.” At the time, lead actors we’re being heavily considered, with Scott’s PROMETHEUS star Michael Fassbender front-running. Well folks, it’s official: Fassbender will indeed play the protagonist in THE COUNSELOR!

In fact, Deadline has it that Scott has moved on to casting the films villain. Again, I doubt anybody can touch what Javier Bardem laid down for the Coens in 2007, but word is Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper and possibly even Brad Pitt are being considered as the antagonist in THE COUNSELOR. I personally can’t see how any of those will work, Cooper in particular, but hey, what the hell do I know. I just think they’re all too high profile for the gig.

Entering production May 1st:

Set the contemporary Southwest, The protagonist in The Counselor is a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.

PROMETHEUS & THE ROAD star…my girl Charlize!!!
