Dean Devlin’s Geostorm, starring Gerard Butler and Ed Harris, sounds amazing

GEOSTORM has flown under our radar for far too long. Sounding like a Syfy/The Asylum collaboration with a touch of Golan-Globus, the sci-fi disaster pic is being helmed by Dean Devlin (Roland Emmerich’s ex-partner) and is amassing a pretty decent cast including Gerard Butler, Ed Harris, Abbie Cornish, Jim Sturgess, Alexandra Maria Lara and Andy Garcia.

All of those people have signed on for a motion picture that goes like this:

The story centers on a stubborn but charming satellite designer (Butler) who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother (Sturgess) to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. As the designer heads into space, the brother discovers a plot to assassinate the president.

Because a man-made storm destroying the world isn’t enough; GEOSTORM needs a presidential assassination subplot to make things really interesting. Just so grateful the stubborn but charming satellite designer (is there any other kind?!) heads to space to save the day.

Andy Garcia will be playing the president, while Abbie Cornish co-stars as Sturgess’ girlfriend. Ed Harris will play the U.S. Secretary of State.

Warner Bros. and Skydance are producing GEOSTORM, which commences shooting this October in New Orleans. Hopefully they’re currently location-scouting in outer space.
