Drew Goddard dishes some dirt on Cloverfield 2, says he’s in!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

My man Ryan Turek over at STYD recently caught up with director Drew Goddard to talk about his film THE CABIN IN THE WOODS. While speaking, the inevitable subject of CLOVERFIELD 2 was broached, and like a true sport, Goddard (who wrote the original) didn’t shy too far away from giving us what he knows. Sounds like, as the key players in the making of the first one have gotten busier and busier, it’s all about finding the right time to get the sumbitch done. Peep what Goddard had to say below…

“I’m in, I’m ready to do it…Someone call J.J. and tell him to get moving, but because Matt and J.J. and I have been fortunate enough to be busy, it’s hard syncing our schedules up. We’re all very passionate about returning to that world.”

Scheduling aside, what about possible creative differences regarding a sequel to the found-footage blockbuster:

“If you asked each of us what we wanted to do, you’ll get three different answers, which is how the first film was. The aesthetic of Cloverfield benefits from that. Three voices pulling it. Look, nothing would make me happier than to get the three of us in the room to get started.”

Don’t know. I like the enthusiasm, but it stills sounds a good way out. If Goddard hasn’t even written a draft, it could take forever for Abrams and Reeves to find time to meet up and get the ball rolling.

Let’s help them out. How much demand is out there for CLOVERFIELD 2? Should these dudes get it cracking soon or let more time go by? Let your wishes be known…
