Jordan Peele’s US to open 2019 SXSW Film Festival

The first trailer for GET OUT writer-director Jordan Peele's upcoming horror-thriller US starring Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Madison Curry back on Christmas day and since then all of us here at AITH have been more than a little excited for our chance to finally check out the finished film. And it looks like some of us will be getting our chance quicker than others as today The SXSW Film Festival announced that Jordan Pelle's new horror movie will be the opening film of this year's event. Specifically, the film will host its world premiere as the opening night film at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival on March 8th.

SXSW Director of Film Janet Pierson said:

We are crazy excited to world premiere the most anticipated film of 2019 from the creative powerhouse that brought us Get Out. We honestly couldn’t imagine a more perfect film to kick off the 2019 SXSW Film Festival.

SXSW Film Festival will release its Feature slate on Wednesday, January 16 (except for Midnighters and Festival Favorites). Midnighters, Festival Favorites, Shorts, Episodic Pilot Competition, Virtual Cinema, Music Videos, and Title Design Competition are announced on Wednesday, February 6.

Here's the movie's official synopsis:

Accompanied by her husband, son, and daughter, Adelaide Wilson returns to the beachfront home where she grew up as a child. Haunted by a traumatic experience from the past, Adelaide grows increasingly concerned that something bad is going to happen to her family. Her worst fears soon become a reality when four masked strangers descend upon the house, forcing the Wilsons into a fight for survival. When the masks come off, each stranger takes the appearance of a different family member.

Written and directed by Peele, the film stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Anna Diop, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, Cali Sheldon, Noelle Sheldon, and Madison Curry. Peele produced US through his company Monkeypaw Productions, along with Sean McKittrick, Jason Blum, and Ian Cooper. Daniel Lupi served as executive producer. US is supposed to reach theatres in just three months, on March 15, 2019. The film will host its world premiere as the opening night film at the SXSW Film Festival on March 8th.
