Mad Max: Fury Road gets official press release and synopsis

Hot on the heels of hearing Mel Gibson discuss the MAD MAX sequel that got away, we’ve finally got an official press release and synopsis for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, excerpts from which you will find below.

From the mouth of Miller himself, "Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived."

I’m assuming “Word Burgers of the History Men” is some bullsh*t plot device designed by Miller to give FURY ROAD a bit more post-apocalyptic texture or something. I mean, I just googled “Word Burgers of the History Men” for like fifteen minutes, hoping it would turn out to be some sort of awesome ancient literary text or something, but I mostly just got articles about the linguistic origins of the word “hamburger.” So there’s that…

The press release also gives us some dirt on whose filling what roles:

"Mad Max: Fury Road"--the fourth in the franchise's history--stars Tom Hardy ("The Dark Knight Rises") in the title role of Max Rockatansky, alongside Oscar(R) winner Charlize Theron ("Monster", "Prometheus") as Imperator Furiosa… [and] also stars Nicholas Hoult ("X-Men: First Class") as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne ("Mad Max," "Sleeping Beauty") as Immortan Joe; and Nathan Jones ("Conan the Barbarian") as Rictus Erectus. Collectively known as The Wives, Zoe Kravitz ("X-Men: First Class") plays Toast, Riley Keough ("Magic Mike") is Capable, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley ("Transformers: Dark of the Moon") is Splendid. They are joined by supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile, both of whom are making their big screen debuts. Also featured in the movie are Josh Helman as Slit, Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy, and singer/songwriter/performer iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior.

So there you have it. After years of false starts, FURY ROAD is finally happening. No release dates have yet been given, but the film is written, currently filming in Africa and studios are dishing out press releases. Max is back and with an actor like Tom Hardy in the driver’s seat, I don’t see how this movie won’t knock it out of the park.

I’m sorry guys, I can’t suppress my joy any longer. Sing along with me, guys: ”We don’t need another hero/we don’t need to know the way home/ what we want is to hurry up and seeeeee… FURY ROAD.”

Extra Tidbit: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (above) still cannot compete with my man crush on Tom Hardy. Sorry, Rosie.
