Michael Bay & James Wong prep supernatural cop drama “Occult” for A&E

Michael Bay? The Occult? Television? Where the hell am I?

An announcement was made today of A&E picking up a supernatural cop drama called “Occult” from producers Michael Bay (above) and James Wong (“The X-Files”). In fact, the cabler has ordered a cast-contingent pilot order for the series.

Written by Wong – the project, which draws parallels to X-Files and Fringe, centers on a FBI agent who returns from administrative leave after going off the deep end while investigating his wife’s disappearance. Eager to be back on the job, he is paired with an agent with her own complicated backstory who specializes in the occult. Together, they will solve cases for the newly formed occult crimes task force.

Sounds like that CW show about cults, or even Kevin Williamson’s “Following.” Can’t say the material for A&E is surprising, they’ve showed quite the commitment to supernatural skeins, “Those Who Kill” and “Bates Motel” chief among them. You think “Occult” can differentiate itself? Who should Bay and Wong cast in the show?

New mama Bates, Vera Farmiga
