Natalia Reyes and Gabriel Luna cast in Miller/Cameron Terminator sequel

Back in November, word started to spread about that the new TERMINATOR sequel, which is being produced by franchise creator James Cameron with DEADPOOL's Tim Miller attached to direct, could be set in

Mexico City and that Cameron & Miller (were) seeking an 18-year-old Mexican actress to play the young female lead, Dani Ramos, as well as a Latin actor with fight/stunt background to play the new villain.

Now it appears that Cameron and Miller have found their heroine and villain for the film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creative team broadened their search for a lead actress, someone they could discover like Cameron discovered Linda Hamilton for THE TERMINATOR, to include actresses from central and South America. Seven actresses moved on to the screen testing stage… and the one who ended up signing on to play the character of Dani is 31-year-old Colombian actress Natalia Reyes. Reyes's previous credits include the television series Cumbia Ninja, which we recently learned is getting a Florida-based reboot titled Forte.

The role of a Terminator cyborg that's assumed to be the villain has gone to Gabriel Luna, who genre fans may known from his role as Marvel Comics character Robbie Reyes / Ghost Rider (pictured above) on the TV show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Natalia Reyes and Gabriel Luna join a cast that already includes Diego Boneta (as Dani's brother), Mackenzie Davis (as a soldier-assassin from the future), and original TERMINATOR stars Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger – although the THR report notes that Hamilton and Schwarzenegger's parts in the film will be "relatively brief". That's a little disappointing to hear, but I'm still interested in seeing what this new film will have to offer.

David S. Goyer has written a draft of the film's script, and Billy Ray was hired to do a polish in November.

The cast will begin training for their TERMINATOR roles later this month, with filming expected to begin next month.

This sequel, which will only be acknowledging the events of the TERMINATOR films made by Cameron (the first film and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY), is scheduled to reach theatres on November 22, 2019.
