The Green Knight: A24 fantasy film rated R for violence, graphic nudity

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Back in February, we shared the trailer for writer/director David Lowery's fantasy adventure film THE GREEN KNIGHT with the belief that the film was going to be able to make its May 29th release date. Of course, that didn't happen, and A24 hasn't given any updates on the release… but while we wait to find out when we might have our chance to see THE GREEN KNIGHT, the Motion Picture Association has seen it and given it a rating.

THE GREEN KNIGHT has been rated R for "violence, some sexuality, and graphic nudity". I don't know what Lowery has put in his movie to earn that "graphic nudity" warning, but this rating has definitely given my interest in the movie a boost.

Starring Dev Patel, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Ralph Ineson, and Alicia Vikander, with Sean Harris as King Arthur, THE GREEN KNIGHT has the following synopsis:

Sir Gawain (Patel), King Arthur's reckless and headstrong nephew, embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.

I didn't expect this to get such a harsh rating when I saw the commercial for the tie-in RPG game. (Which is available for purchase HERE.)
